Ordered New Business Cards

I don't know if this is a good reason for a blog post — I ordered new business cards.

Sharpen While You Shop Business Cards

Here is the new design business card that I just ordered.

The changes are:

I have a new email address. The address I had — smitty@mobileknife.biz — I had forwarded to my main address and that did not seem to be reliable. I decided to get a gmail address.

I added a 'tag line' of what I sharpen. Everybody asks if I do serrated knives — so I thought to save my golden voice and put serrated knives right on the business card!

The web address for Sharpen While You Shop is on the card — along the bottom. I operate under Sharpen While You Shop and wanted the name and the web address on the card, but I also wanted my contact address on the card — and I wanted a clear distinction.

That's about it.

Giant, Ancient F. Dick Knife at Lunardi's San Bruno's Knife Sharpening Stop!

I always enjoy it when somebody brings in anything unusual or different. Something that I have not see while sharpening knives.

Large Vintage F. Dick Knife
This knife definitely fits that last sentence! This is a giant F. Dick knife. The guy that brought it in to be sharpened said he found it stuck into the ground in a back yard that he was cleaning up.

Vintage F. Dick Knife

Here is the same knife photographed with a Quarter so you can get a size perspective.

The knife was in pretty good shape — considering how it was found. The steel was heavily pitted, and the wood of the handle was cracked a bit, but overall still complete, intact, the handle was not loose or anything.

Here is a close up of the F. Dick logo. This photo also shows the edge — before sharpening — of the knife.

Knife Sharpening @ Zanotto's Market on Friday Afternoons

My knife sharpening service now stops at the Zanotto's Family Market on Friday afternoons.

Zanotto's Family Market on Naglee Avenue

I am at Zanotto's Friday afternoons — 2pm to 6pm.

Zanotto's Family Market is located at 1970 Naglee Avenue (pretty much the corner of Naglee and Bascom).

Zanotto's is a delightful, family run full service supermarket — if you live in the area and don't shop here, you should!

Vintage Knives and Garden Tools

When I am out and about I always have an eye out for vintage knives, garden tools and scissors. I look for anything that I think I can restore, sharpen and which could be used again.

Robeson Fighting Knife
I found this knife the other day. It is a Robeson knife, stamped U.S.A. I believe it to be a World War II issued knife. It is in great shape, rust on the metal parts that were exposed to the air, just a little rust and tarnish on the metal that was covered by the leather sheath.

Swiss Made Garden Pruners
Here is a hand pruner. It is marked as made in Switzerland, and some other words — but I can not see the name of the manufacturer. I searched the web, and found an picture that was similar that was identified as a Boker.

I have a knife that might be what would be a serrated knife — but instead of the curved serrations of current knives, this knife has big, square notches. Both the cutting surface and the downward extending part are probably approaching one half inch. I think it looks like the top of a medieval castle wall!
